Non-shooting companions will enjoy an array of cultural and relaxation activities including hosted day tours to nearby small villages, a visit to Snowdonia National Park or a day of pampering at Palè’s full-service spa.
With exclusivity for our Trek group for world-class driven pheasant shooting, five-star hospitality, Michelin-star-level dining and an extraordinary sense of history, we are confident those who join us this October will agree this is the trip of a lifetime.
The Trip
As we commence this thrilling journey in Manchester, UK, you’ll fly into this historic European city from any number of U.S. hubs. If you have any questions or need assistance on flight bookings, please contact travel consultant Shaun McKanna at the Trek Office.
Upon arrival in Manchester, we will check into and stay at The Midland Manchester for the evening. First opened in 1903, The Midland is renowned for elevated guest service and its stunning historic charm. We will gather for cocktails and then enjoy a lovely welcome dinner with the group.
The next morning will be at leisure, as we will be picked up to head out to Palé Hall in their bespoke luxury vehicles after lunch. Breakfast and lunch will be on your own. The two-hour drive southwest will consist crossing the border into Wales from England between Chester and Wrexham. From there we’ll follow the River Dee through the valley passing through small Welsh towns with a medieval vibe to them. Beautiful country sides line the river full of sheep and the infamous highland cattle.
We’ll wind through the valley coming up on 300-year old The Bryntirion Inn and Pub (a place you should keep in mind that may come up during your stay at Palé Hall). We’ll turn into the estate shortly after we pass The Bryntirion Inn following up the private drive arriving the the front door of Palé Hall where we’ll be greeted with champagne by the wonderful staff before shown to your rooms.
Depending on time of arrival, there will be an option to be joined by head gardener of Palé Hall for a tour of their 50-acre Victorian style gardens that highlight their rare plants, hidden sculptures, and an opportunity to view their functioning Hyrdo Facility the estate still utilizes that was constructed in the late 1800s when the Hall was built.
This evening we will have a private three-course a la carte dinner in the Henry Robinson Dining Hall. A great way to kick off our stay at Palé Hall with the group.
The next two days will be days afield for our shooters, with our non hunters having an array of thrilling activities from which to choose. While we aren’t shooting on our final full day at Palé Hall, we do have the option for a day of leisure at the estate, or to enjoy nearby touring activities. We will also have the opportunity to fly fish on the scenic River Dee near Llangollen, within a UNESCO World Heritage site and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The river is renowned for its Salmon, Sea Trout, Brown Trout, and Grayling, while the lower beat offers excellent coarse fishing for species like Dace, Chub, Roach, and Pike. This stunning location provides a diverse and picturesque fishing experience.
The following morning, after breakfast, we’ll say our goodbyes to Palé Hall and the wonderful folks who helped make this an unforgettable experience. We’ll then make our way back to Manchester to continue your time in the UK or head back home.
The Experience
Formerly part of the Duke of Westminster’s estate, the historic property once encompassed more than 32,000 acres of dramatic valley terrain bordering Bala Lake. The steep, challenging topography produces thrilling, high-quality driven pheasant shooting widely regarded as the finest in the UK. Each day is meticulously designed to deliver exhilarating sport while immersing guests in some of the most breathtaking scenery in Britain.
At the heart of the experience is a state-of-the-art shooting lodge offering modern comforts and refined hospitality throughout the day. Guests are transported between drives in bespoke luxury vehicles, ensuring effortless transitions and uncompromising comfort.
A traditional UK shooting breakfast in The Shoot Lodge will be the kick off of an unforgettable day of proper Welsh driven pheasant shooting. After breakfast, you’ll transfer from The Shoot Lodge that is on the main estate of Palé Hall to one of the two shooting estates that are about 20 minutes away from the Hall.
When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the shooting team of Palé Hall headed by Martin. You’ll have a welcome and safety briefing, be introduced to your loaders, and draw pegs for the day before climbing into the ground vehicles to head off to your first drive.
The day of driven pheasant consists of a bag of 350 birds – along with the ringed-neck pheasant, you can expect to see red-legged partridge and the occasion turkey. The day will consist of 4 drives with high end elevenses between each drive that live up the the Palé Hall dining experience standards.
With drives in various spots around the estate you’ll find yourself on pegs in-between valleys in the Northern Wales mountain ranges. Martin and his team control the drives and can adjust them as they see fit to make the shooting fun and sporty for all. “A proper Welsh pheasant shooting experience,” to say the least.
After the final drive, you’ll head back to the estate where you’ll enjoy a wonderful post shoot lunch in The Shoot Lodge that usually consists of fine meats grilled over their open fire grill inside the lodge.
Non-shooters will enjoy a lovely breakfast with the shooters in the shooting lodge or in Palé Hall, whichever they prefer, and a relaxing morning. Palé Hall offers a wonderful pottery class experience open to the community and public. Today, the non-shooters will have their own private class experience that is usually a hit activity of the trip. Not to mention being able to bring one a keepsake from your stay at the lovely Palé Hall. Another option is to have a guided tour of the 50 acre Victoria style gardens and sculpture walk with head gardener.
“Palé Hall welcomes our new Pottery classes, hosted in our beautifully restored Fine Art & Antiques Studio and led by acclaimed North Wales ceramicist Jo-anna Duncalf. Whether you’re a curious beginner or a returning creative, these relaxed, hands-on workshops are the perfect way to slow down, switch off, and shape something truly personal — with expert guidance every step of the way.”
Following the pottery class, the non-shooters will have the opportunity to clean up and get ready for Afternoon Tea!
Indulge in a timeless tradition, reimagined with care and creativity. Our afternoon tea features an elegant selection of delicate finger sandwiches, handcrafted patisserie, and freshly baked scones, served with the finest teas—all enjoyed in the grandeur of Palé Hall’s Henry Robertson restaurant.
This evening will consist of cocktails in Palé Hall and then a dinner over at The Bryntirion Inn and Pub. The Bryntirion has been a staple in the town for many years. When Palé Hall’s owner, Anthony-Cooper “Tony” Barney, took over the estate, he purchased the Inn and Pub and completely gutted it. He then went in and overhauled everything – bars, kitchen, rooms, furniture, decorations, etc. – to make it a must stop in the area. Yes, you are talking traditional UK pub dishes but these dishes have the Palé Hall flare to them especially since they are being prepared by Lucas Selby’s staff of Michelin trained chef’s. The best Sunday Roast you’ll have not only in the area but around all of the UK – pair it with a pint of Guinness and you are luxuriously engulfed into the local culture.
After dinner you’ll head back to Palé Hall for a drink or two if you wish, before heading to get some much earned rest.
Fly fishing is available on final day for those who wish to do so on the River Dee, which flows alongside by the lodge, providing the power source of Palé Hall.
