Acension Bay, located on the southeastern coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, offers anglers some of the most thrilling flats fishing in the world. With miles and miles of coastline, shallow flats and lagoon systems, the fishing opportunities here are seemingly endless, providing anglers with a legitimate shot at achieving the prized flats Grand Slam (permit, tarpon, bonefish).
As a part of the Sian K’aan Biosphere, Ascension Bay is strictly protected from commercial fishing and development. This has allowed the bay to develop into one of the most prolific fishery in the Caribbean.
This adventure is budget friendly and an opportunity for anglers of all skill levels to catch a lot of fish. ABL is the ideal venue for a father-son adventure you’ll always remember.
This is one of the most budget-friendly and easy to get to adventures you’ll find anywhere. You can reach Cancun in around two hours from many major U.S. hubs.
Once you land and clear customs, you’ll be met with a Trek partner representative, who will transfer you approximately two hours through Tulum, into the biosphere. There, you’ll jump on a panga for a short, scenic ride to the lodge.
ABL understands that happy, accomplished guides are key to having a successful flats fishing experience. The lodge’s team of talented local guides are adept at helping clients of all skill levels to stay on fish. Each “panga” style skiff is manned by a head guide and an assistant guide.
The guides work together as a team to search the flats and put you in casting range of your target species. They will coach you through the whole process, but it is ultimately up to the angler to stay calm, make the cast, set the hook, and land the fish.
You’ll fish full, eight-hour days sight-stalking fish, a perpetually thrilling experience of anticipating the next fish and setting up your cast.
Ascension Bay Lodge (ABL) offers extremely high-touch client service, as proprietor Daniel Marquez meticulously manages all phases of fishing and lodge operations. Daniel is present and engaged, from your morning pre-fishing huddle with your guide to mealtime and beyond.
Ascension Bay Lodge is a small, independent fishing lodge, located beachfront in the quaint, friendly village of Punta Allen, Mexico. Opened in 2015, ABL was remodeled and expanded during the pandemic and can now accommodate up to 12 anglers.
ABL’s air-conditioned guest rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. The lodge’s in-house cooks prepare delicious mayan-inspired cuisine that can be enjoyed in our private dining room. The beer is always ice cold and ABL’s fresh-squeezed margaritas are top notch.
