For years, Patagonia’s Estancia Caleufu has quietly welcomed only its own clientele to one of the most remarkable sporting venues in Patagonia. Today, Trek Safaris is excited to share a truly special new opportunity for our valued clients.
Through a new partnership, Trek has secured exclusive access to this extraordinary destination, creating a rare opportunity for our clients to experience an authentic Patagonian estancia that enjoys substantial differentiation among peer lodges in the region.
Imagine 80,000 private acres of breathtaking Patagonia. Wild rivers flowing through untouched valleys. Trophy red stags roaring across the hillsides. Horseback rides with gauchos. Evenings around the fire enjoying world-class Argentine cuisine and wines.
This is untouched Patagonia that harkens back to the dawning popularity of the region in the mid 20th century. Availability November through May is limited and on a first come, first serve basis, so please contact our team at the earliest with interest.
The Trip
Your journey begins with an overnight flight to Buenos Aires (EZE), followed by a connecting flight to San Martín de los Andes/Chapelco Airport (CPC), the preferred gateway to Estancia Caleufú. Guests are met upon arrival for a scenic transfer of approximately 90 minutes through the heart of Argentine Patagonia to the estancia.
Bariloche International Airport (BRC) is also an option, with a transfer of approximately three to four hours through the spectacular Lake District. Set within an 80,000-acre private ranch in the remote Caleufú River Valley, the lodge feels wonderfully secluded while remaining easily accessible from either airport.
The Experience
Estancia Caleufú offers one of Patagonia’s most diverse sporting experiences, combining world-class trout fishing, exceptional free-range red stag hunting and unforgettable outdoor adventures for non-hunters and non-anglers. Fly fishermen enjoy exclusive access to the pristine Caleufú River and the intimate Chulchiuma Creek, where wild brown and rainbow trout thrive in waters that flow entirely through private property.
Depending on the season, anglers can float expansive river sections from drift boats, stalk trout on foot with dry flies or streamers, or explore secluded spring creeks virtually untouched by other fishermen. During the roaring fall rut, hunters pursue trophy red stags across rugged mountains, open valleys and native forests, often on horseback with experienced guides.
Guests not participating in fishing or hunting can experience authentic Patagonian estancia life through horseback riding, hiking, wildlife viewing, birdwatching, photography, traditional gaucho experiences and leisurely afternoons enjoying one of the most spectacular landscapes in South America.
The Accommodations
Designed to reflect the warmth and heritage of a traditional Patagonian estancia, Estancia Caleufú offers comfortable accommodations without sacrificing authenticity. The property features a main lodge with four ensuite guest rooms, complemented by two nearby guest cabins, each offering two additional bedrooms, for a total of eight guest rooms, each with a private bathroom.
After a day afield, guests gather in the inviting living room, spacious dining room and fully stocked bar before sharing stories around the outdoor fire pit. Meals are a highlight of every stay, with hearty three-course lunches and dinners showcasing estate-raised beef, lamb and venison, fresh seasonal vegetables and regional wines.
Whether returning from the river or the mountains, the combination of genuine hospitality, outstanding cuisine and breathtaking surroundings creates the quintessential Patagonian lodge experience.
