The plan is to have have the boats, guides and accommodations in the most productive areas during your stay. Plying the rich waters of the Parana in search of migrating waterfowl and Golden Dorado aboard this comfortable 70′, tri-level catamaran is truly the adventure of a lifetime.
The Trip
The Paraná River system spans more than 3,000 miles, providing a vast network of tributaries, deltas, marshlands and lagoons. This massive ecosystem is the driving force behind some of the most outstanding duck hunting you’ll ever experience. Being also where the Parana and Uruguay rivers start to join, this ecosystem enjoys the largest migrations of sabalo, pejerrey and sardines. These bait fish are the main food source of the golden dorado, as well as other predatory fish, such as the Chafalote (Payara like fish), Palo meta, Surubi (big catfish), Pira Pita, Wolf Fish, Pacu and other excellent game fish, that challenge both fly and spin anglers alike. The range each days is a far as your 17′ custom boat with 90-horse, four-stroke engine will take you. The Parana Gypsy can be reached by a 2.5-hour drive from Buenos Aires’s Ezeiza Airport to a private marina on the Parana followed by a fast boat ride to the Gypsy. Its location will be determined by weather and fishing conditions. Anglers may also arrive to the city of Rosario for a shorter 45-minute route to the marina.
The Experience
The Paraná River system spans more than 3,000 miles, providing a vast network of tributaries, deltas, marshlands and lagoons. This massive ecosystem is the driving force behind some of the most outstanding duck hunting you’ll ever experience. Each morning, you’ll hunt from the comfort of an elevated blind, taking aim at endemic South American species, such as rosy-billed pochards, white-cheeked pintail, as well as silver and speckled teal. After lunch on the mother ship, you’ll have the option to jump in a boat to experience some of the finest golden dorado fishing in the world. You may also be tempted to take the afternoon for R&R and to soak in the sights and sounds of the majestic Parana. The Gypsy’s mobility allows us to continually identify and operate from new, unpressured areas within the upper Paraná, which is an advantage to both hunters and fisherman no stationary lodge can possibly offer. During your Gypsy adventure, we will rotate hunting marshes and fish a variety of water types.
The Accommodations
The Gypsy is 70’x24’ tri-level catamaran, built in the 1990s and recently refurnished and upgraded to host a world-class hunting and fishing operation. The mothership’s first level comprises four very comfortable double bedrooms and one single room, each with en suite bathrooms and equipped with air conditioning, heating, 24-hour electricity, and TV.
The second level has a meticulously restored meeting area, where you’ll share cocktails, meals and camaraderie. Just outside this area, you can relax on the deck between the day’s sporting sessions and after meals, perhaps enjoying a cigar, while taking in the majestic vistas of the river.
