Estancia Santa Clara

Uruguay's Premier Mixed Bag Lodge

Uruguay Mixed Bag Hunting

Estancia Santa Clara

Trek Safaris and Estancia Santa Clara has entered into an agreement to offer a select number of dates during their mixed-bag season May 1-September 15. The opportunity to see such a wonderful estancia built 200 years ago and still as beautiful today as it was originally designed, it is both a privilege and rare opportunity. The castle offers excellent comfort, gourmet meals and fabulous Tannat wines.
Each single room has its own decor and ambience and the many different common rooms throughout the house tell a different story in a time when Uruguay was in its infancy. While the estancia has 50,000 actress to hunt, they also have access to another 50,00- acres in adjacent property as well. Your hosts will be the direct descendants of Captain John Jackson of the British Royal Navy and as the 7th generation, their own story to tell.

The Trip

To reach Estancia Santa Clara, you’ll fly into Montevideo, Uruguay using United and Copa Airlines which are airline partners to Montevideo. Our travel department will be glad to research the best schedule for your group to Montevideo.

Once you arrive to Montevideo, your group will be met by a fast track VIP service who will meet you as soon as you get off the plane and whisk you straight through immigrations. You will then be placed in the VIP Salon where you will relax as they secure you baggage. Once your bags have been collected they will escort you outside to your waiting van from Santa Clara who will transfer you 2 hours 15 min to the lodge.

Once you’ve taken in the breathtaking grandeur of Santa Clara, you will enjoy three full shooting days from Estancia Santa Clara involving six sessions, two sessions each for doves, pigoens, perdiz and ducks.

The Hunting

Each day after a full breakfast, you’ll only have a short drive to a productive field or lagoon for ducks, doves, pigeons or perdiz. There are 50,000 on-property acres offering ten different duck lagoons/ponds, three sanctuary lakes offering refuse for the ducks.  They also offer good volume dove/pigeon shooting on one their many feedlots and or roosts.  The partridge shooting here at Santa Clara is the best in the country and their kennel of dogs are spot on.

After the morning shoot you will come back to the lodge for a full lunch, or if the weather cooperates, an asado out back with the fire pits ablaze. After lunch your group will proceed with an afternoon shoot on a different species for the day. We must stress that drive times are short so programs can be flexible depending on the needs of each groups.

The Accommodations

Estancia Santa Clara, a breathtaking castle located in the enchanting countryside of Uruguay, has been the home of the Jackson family for the last 200 years. At Santa Clara, the wild rural gaucho (cowboy) culture and the fascinating history of its stately castle and family blend to create a unique setting for a bespoke shooting and hunting experience on their property of 50,000 acres with access to another 50,000 on adjacent parcels.

The family will welcome you like old friends in their home, a castle built by Jackson’s grandson, Arturo, in the late 1800s, only with European materials brought by boat and carriage to the heart of Uruguayan farmlands. The castle is a living museum, which Jackson’s descendant – the mother and grandmother to the current 7th generation owners, Magdalena – filled with furniture, art, and treasures that tell the story of this family, which is no other than the history of Uruguay.

Without doubt, this is the most unique and privileged shooting experience in all of Uruguay and a place that even non-hunters will surely enjoy. Santa Clara features eight bedrooms individually decorated and each having a private bath. Groups will enjoy the many different common rooms throughout the house as well as a new spa scheduled to be completed in late 2022.
