Ernest Hemingway once wrote “I never knew of a morning in Africa when I was not happy.” Through over 50 years of designing and hosting African Photo Safaris, countless Trek clients have experienced the enchantment of a majestic land that so inspired Hemingway. The experience and relationships Trek has acquired over the past five-plus decades makes your part easy, so buckle in for the African safari of your dreams.
For our African Photo Safaris we are proud to be a wholesaler for Wilderness Safaris. Wilderness Safaris was founded in 1983 and is run by a group of likeminded wildlife enthusiasts who came together to build a successful safari business, delivering a unique experience for guests while ensuring that the pristine wilderness areas remain sustainably protected.
Unrivalled for its wildlife, Botswana is home to some of Africa’s most luxurious safari camps. Privacy and wilderness are synonymous here. With a population of roughly two million, 40% of its land is dedicated to parks and wildlife, Botswana is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world.
Botswana is famous for the The Okavango Delta. The Okavango Delta is affected by seasonal flooding with flood water from Angola reaching the Delta between March and June, peaking in July. This peak coincides with Botswana’s dry season resulting in great migrations of plains game from the dry hinterland. attracting animals from miles around and creating one of Africa’s greatest concentrations of wildlife.
Botswana has done an incredible job of limiting the number of tourists in the bush. You will not see the crowds of vehicles while game viewing as you will see on other African countries. It is truly a life changing experience.
Get closer to thrilling wildlife interactions and see creatures big and small on morning and afternoon game drives. The sightings you experience on your game drives will be talked about, not only around the campfire but for years to come.
The Trip
We have put together the sample itinerary in a digital brochure for what we call The Africa Dream Trip a Botswana Photo Safari including Victoria Falls and Cape Town South Africa. Despite the fact you are visiting three countries, this trip is seamless and easily arranged using Trek’s network of expert guides and tour partners. You will be flying in small aircraft or helicopters from camp to camp as there are no roads to be traveled.
In this sample itinerary our journey starts with your arrival to Cape Town and a transfer to the luxurious Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, where you will unwind from the transatlantic journey. The Twelve Apostles is a beautifully appointed boutique hotel located in Camps Bay.
This night at the Twelve Apostles will get your feet under you before you hi the bush. After your stay at the Twelve Apostles, you will fly commercially to Maun, Botswana where our partner Wilderness Safaris will brief you on your next stop via small plane to your fabulous bush lodge in a private reserve within the Okavango.
In this sample itinerary we use three of Wilderness Safari’s camps staying two nights at Qorokwe in the Okavango Delta, two nights at Vumbura Plains in Kwedi Concession and two nights at Duma Tau in Linyanti Concession flying a bush plane from camp to camp.
You will see animals of all types, mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians and fish. Some of the dangerous game you will encounter African elephants, lions, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, wild dogs, Lechwe, Roan and Sitatunga antelopes, hippos, buffalos and many more wildlife species.
After your days in the bush we have prepared a special flight from Kasane to Victoria Falls where you will see this great spectacle from the air followed by a land transfer to MatetsiVictoria Falls hotel, your idyllic accommodation retreat set on the Zambesi River.
The Victoria Falls itself, also known as Mosi-oa-Tunya (the Smoke that Thunders), is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the “largest waterfall on Earth”.
After leaving Victoria Falls you will take a commercial flight back to Cape Town, and once again make Twelve Apostles your home for your next wo days of activities. Which include a wine and vineyard tour, Cape Peninsula tour, Table Mountain, and the waterfront.
There are also number of other activities to choose from in Cape Town, including a bike tour, hiking and a number of museums. Cape Town’s reputation as being one of the most beautiful places on earth is not unfounded and the Twelve Apostles bar and restaurant are the town’s best offering superb local cuisine and expert service along with a breathtaking sunset.

The Experience
‘Photogenic’ doesn’t begin to describe Botswana, particularly its Okavango Delta and Linyanti Wildlife Reserve. Botswana offers an iconic safari experience, with enough diverse wonders to wow everyone. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Okavango is a labyrinth of pure waters descending from the Angolan highlands to the Kalahari Desert. To its north lies the Linyanti, one of Africa’s wildest areas and home to wildlife corridors critical to various species’ conservation.
Think vast waterways populated by elephant, hippo, crocs, and thousands of waterlilies, and varied habitats on terra firma, including floodplains, savannah, mopane woodland, riverine forests, and permanent swamps. Landscapes and wildlife here are a photographer’s dream, one we’d love to share with you. Our carefully curated, nine-night photographic safari is geared to both professional and amateur photographers and promises knockout photo opportunities.
Whether on land or water, on game drives, nature walks, Delta motorboat, sleepy barge or mokoro (traditional dugout canoe), or even resting in your luxurious suite as an elephant or other creature ambles past, you’ll find endless subjects to shoot, a multitude of images to make, and rich memories to take home.
