4 Shooting Days
April, May, June, July
For the pigeon shooting enthusiast, the words “decoying birds” cause a marked increase in pulse rate. Pigeon Palace is a destination that lives up to its ambitious name, offering some of the best decoying pigeon hunting you will find, anywhere.
Lodge owner Mozo Vidal’s years of hard work and vision for Pigeon Palace have delivered thrilling adventures to thousands of hunters over the better part of the last decade. Mozo’s meticulous scouting and applied knowledge around pigeon behavior ensured that Pigeon Palace is located an area of Bolivia that is rich in the type of large grain agriculture favored by pigeons. Furthermore, his dedication to protection of the resource and careful rotation of shooting venues has been paramount in providing sustained success of this program.
That Trek has a great number of clients book the same dates here, year after year, is an indication of the volume of birds and consistency of Pigeon Palace. Our season here is brief, running from April through July and space does fill quickly, so, if pigeon shooting is your passion, this place is for you.
Although airfare is not included, both Air Boliviana and COPA offer daily service into Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Your trip starts upon arrival into to Santa Cruz Bolivia, where outfitter Mozo Vidal will have his staff on hand to greet you and help clear your guns.
After clearing immigrations and customs, depending upon airline chosen, you’ll either spend this initial night in Santa Cruz, to be taken to the lodge mid-morning of day two, or transfer about four hours to Pigeon Palace, get settled and start your hunting the afternoon of day two.
The next three days are morning and afternoon pigeon hunts. The final morning you have one last hunt then you’ll transfer back to Santa Cruz, overnight and catch your international flight home the following morning. In total, this will be seven days of travel and hunting. Bolivia is a very hunter friendly country allowing you to easily bring your own shotgun, in the event you do not wish to rent one of the quality lodge guns. As always, Trek Safaris will be happy to help with your airfare.
Pigeon Palace Lodge is located in the middle of the Bolivian pigeon migration and from April through July, you can experience this pigeon madness. For three full and two half days, we will shoot over sorghum, corn and sunflower fields near Mennonite farming colonies using decoy spreads and spinning machines.
We know of no other pigeon only program that offers the volume and consistency of Pigeon Palace. The lodge’s highly skilled bird boys build excellent blinds and assemble a decoy spread well before you arrive at the field each morning. As birds tend to fly in consistent bursts, your bird boy will always hustle to keep your red-hot guns loaded.
After the morning shoot, you’ll enjoy a hearty lunch and some down time before the afternoon shoot. Appetizers, cocktails and a refreshing pool will be waiting for you back at the lodge, with time to wash up before dinner with your group.
Located near the town of San Jose de Chiquitos in the Santa Cruz Province of Bolivia, Pigeon Palace is a spacious five-bedroom lodge all having en-suite bathrooms, A/C and maximum capacity for 10 hunters doubling in the rooms. There is a large great room with bar, fireplace, dining area and several comfortable seating corners allowing guys to stretch out and enjoy themselves.
During the hot days of the season, hunters can enjoy the swimming pool at the center of the grounds. Mozo’s wife Vicky is responsible for the kitchen preparing typical Bolivian meals of pork, beef, pasta and desserts.
