Experience the stunning beauty of Alaska’s Inside Passage and some of the world’s most sensational angling within a live-aboard environment that is infinitely more exclusive and private than that of a cruise ship. Trek’s partnership with The Boat Company delivers you the opportunity to tour and fish your way through the Inside Passage with a group of no more than 24 passengers. This adventure offers guests an extremely diverse, high-service program that adult and family groups alike have enjoyed on a repeat basis for more than 30 years.
The Trip
The Boat Company’s Alaska voyages run Saturday to Saturday, beginning with your arrival in Juneau or Sitka, where we’ve arranged accommodations at the Ramada Hotel. On Sunday, we set sail into the heart of Southeast Alaska’s Inside Passage, also known as The Tongass National Forest. From that moment on, each day is yours to shape—whether you’re looking for wilderness hikes, fishing in remote coves, kayaking alongside sea lions, or simply soaking in the breathtaking landscapes. Every trip is fully customizable, offering the perfect blend of adventure, education, and relaxation—tailored to meet your pace and passions.
The Experience
Alaska isn’t just a destination—it’s a full-sensory experience, and aboard The Boat Company’s’ MV LISERON (20 guests) or MV MIST COVE, (24 guests) every day offers a new adventure. One day you might be kayaking through quiet bays, scanning the shoreline for harbor seals, coastal brown bears, sea otters or black bears on the mainland. The next, you’re hiking through ancient rainforest or watching humpback whales breach against a backdrop of towering coast forests, blue-glacier walls. Orcas cruise the fjords. Brown bears roam remote beaches. And for those who love to fish with harbor seals sunning themselves and raising their pups amongst the ice flows, the opportunities are endless—from wild trout in pristine streams to halibut and salmon in the saltwater depths.
But this isn’t just for adrenaline seekers. Some guests prefer to slow things down—curl up in the ship’s salon with a good book, sip coffee as the morning mist lifts off the water, or simply sit on deck and let the silence of the wilderness speak for itself. The journey wraps up in the historic fishing town of Sitka or Juneau as the vessels run reverse schedules, crisscrossing each other’s paths throughout the season, but the memories stay with you far longer. And truly, this is only scratching the surface of what you’ll see and feel out here.
The Accommodations
The MV LISERON isn’t just a boat—it’s a piece of maritime history, lovingly restored and purpose-built for wilderness adventure. Originally constructed in 1952 in Seattle as a wooden minesweeper for the French Navy, she was later acquired and refitted from the keel up by The Boat Company in 1989. Officially coming into service in the summer of 1992. At 145 feet with a 28-foot beam, the LISERON blends classic craftsmanship—fine mahogany interiors and naval brass work—with the comfort and practicality demanded by modern adventurers.
She carries just 20 guests across 10 beautifully appointed staterooms, each with a private bath, queen bed and upper berth. The expansive salon is ideal for relaxing after a day on the water, while meals are served family-style on the fantail, where the views of Alaska’s Inside Passage are nothing short of cinematic. Whether it’s fresh-caught seafood or artful gourmet fare, our onboard chefs have earned reputations that speak for themselves.
The LISERON is outfitted with four 19-foot center-console skiffs, each ready to take you beyond the anchorages—to cast a fly in a remote stream, hike a ridgeline, explore a glacial bay, or simply sit quietly in the presence of whales. With a crew of ten seasoned, passionate professionals, we keep our itineraries flexible, and guest focused. No two days are ever the same—because the wilderness doesn’t follow a script, and neither do we.
The MV MIST COVE was purpose-built by The Boat Company to bring guests deeper into the wilds of Southeast Alaska—with all the comfort, character, and craftsmanship that defines our style of travel. Launched in 2000 as a sister ship to the LISERON, the MIST COVE is 157 feet long with a 32-foot beam, offering slightly more space while maintaining the same intimate, small-group experience we’re known for.
She features twelve spacious staterooms, each with a private bathroom, queen-size bed, and upper berth. The interior is rich with warm woods and thoughtful details that reflect our commitment to both form and function. Large windows and open-air decks throughout the vessel ensure you never miss a moment—whether it’s a pod of orcas off the bow or brown bears foraging along the shoreline.
Like her sister ship, the MIST COVE carries a fleet of five 19-foot center-console skiffs, ready to whisk you away for fishing, kayaking, hiking, or wildlife viewing. Our professional crew of twelve— including chefs, naturalists, guides, and mariners—deliver a level of service that’s personal, knowledgeable, and refreshingly unpretentious. Meals onboard are a highlight in their own right, with chefs crafting locally inspired, gourmet cuisine that matches the scenery bite for bite.
If the LISERON is our classic beauty with a storied past, the MIST COVE is her modern counterpart—cut from the same cloth, but built to carry the legacy forward.
