You cannot credibly discuss the world’s best trout fishing without mentioning Patagonia. This hallowed region has everything a traveling angler could ever want – great fishing on private waters, the best food and accommodations and the some of the world’s most scenic surroundings.

Trek and its client base have been fishing Patagonia since the 70s, and while some things have changed, our philosophy has not: offer the best very best facilities and fishing experience possible. We are very fortunate to again represent Hosteria San Huberto and the Olsen Family to provide our clients with an exceptional trout fishing experience in Patagonia.

The trip San Huberto starts with a flight arrival from Buenos Aires into Chapelco Airport in San Martin de los Andes, followed by a 45-minute transport to the lodge. After introductions to the staff and meeting your guide, you will be served a hearty lunch and jump in the river for the afternoon hatch.

The following five days you and your guide will devise a plan that will make best use of your desires and abilities. The last date you will have time to fish the Malleo one last time before taking your flight back to Buenos Aires. Please note that shorter trips are available with notice and you may wish to combine your trip to San Huberto with other lodges in the area. There are several that will work well depending on your needs , we suggest you call us for a suggestion.

For those who would prefer to extend or combine other nearby lodges with San Huberto, Trek will gladly design a trip to include a few days at Collon Lodge, Estancia Tres Rios or Estancia Arroyo Verde. Call for a detailed itinerary today.

Whether you prefer open areas where the river turns slightly and creates quiet pools, or smaller sections where the water is swifter but the fish are less wary, the Malleo is an angler’s paradise and only steps away from the lodge. It tumbles down from its source at nearby Lake Tromen through San Huberto’s property creating excellent dry habitat for trout that will challenge expert anglers with trophy sizes over 20 inches and those who just want to catch fish will be given ample opportunities.

And for the last 40 plus years, 12 lucky anglers have casted and caught fish in places along its banks like the Meadows, the Willows and the Red Bridge and many others. Aside from the Malleo, you will also encounter super productive rivers like the Alumine, Chimehuin, Collon Cura as well as Lake Tromen; all teeming with rainbows and browns within a 45 minute drive.

Your hosts and guides will be none other than Ronnie and Gustavo Olsen, who have fished these rivers all their lives and have a reputation second to none. Their guiding staff are also excellent and will end up being your best friends by the end of the week.

In the late 19th century the European family Olsen settled in the northern Patagonia Region near Junin de los Andes and laid their claim to 40,000 acres in the foothills of the Andes. There were no bridges or roads, only the Olsen’s abiding spirit to survive and build a sustainable way of life for their family.

While farming and cattle kept the Olsen’s from starving, it was the introduction of trout, Red Deer, hares and boar that eventually made life much easier and laid the groundwork to become Hosteria San Huberto, one of the premier trout lodges in Argentina.

This two-story estancia is located in the shadows of the Lanin Volcano and is near the town of Junin de los Andes. San Huberto’s 40,000 acres are owned by Carmen Olsen and her family and has been in their family since before the 20th century. Meandering through the property is the majestic Malleo River.

The lodge has six double rooms and four single rooms for total occupancy of 16 guests. However, only 12 guests a week may fish at any given time.
