First-time hunters visit Cordoba to experience the region’s unfathomable dove population and to shoot a pile of shells you’d need a stepladder to see over. Those lucky enough to stay at La Portenita during their first visit often return frequently, as much for the accommodations as the hunting.
La Portenita is a product of brothers Alex and Zeke Hayes’ vision to provide their guests with the absolute finest hunting experience in all of South America. The lodge, which sits high on the picturesque countryside about an hour outside of Cordoba city, offers the ultimate in service, cuisine and accommodations.
The Trip
Your trip begins with an overnight flight from The U.S., arriving in Buenos Aires the following morning. Upon clearing customs in B.A., a Trek partner representative will meet you to assist with airport transfer for your flight to Cordoba. A time-saving private charter option is available as well for an additional cost.
You arrive in Cordoba today where a member from H&H Outfitters will be on hand to help with your bags and transfer you to La Portenita Lodge. Everyone will be greeted with champagne then shown to their respective rooms. After stowing your gear and getting changed into hunting clothes, we will have a quick lunch then depart to the field for an afternoon shoot. Once everyone has been briefed and appointed bird boys for the hunt, shooting will start. Do not get overwhelmed at first as it is an amazing site seeing thousands of dove at one time. This will continue well into the afternoon until around dusk when shooting normally ends.
Once we transfer back to the lodge, everyone is welcome to schedule a massage and have the barman mix your favorite libation. Shortly after cocktails, dinner will be served and this is always a highlight of the day at Guayascate. Chef Daniel will prepare his enjoyable meals consisting of many fine Argentine beefs and desserts presented with a formal culinary flair
The next three days are full hunting days with asado (local barbecue) in the fields each day. On the last day, you will have a morning hunt and settle up before saying your goodbyes, followed by a transfer to your return afternoon flight that will connect you to an overnight flight home to The States.
The Experience
La Porteñita is situated on top of a hill with magnificent views and is nestled in a beautiful country setting within the confines of a working Argentine Estancia, making for a unique Hunting experience. The Lodge has been in operation since 1996 , but was just remodeled to meet our high standards of customer service. La Porteñita has six large bedrooms in the main house and a separate villa with three additional double bedrooms with a private bath.
A typical shooting day at La Portenita starts after a sumptuous breakfast, with departure to the fields by 8 AM. The shooting fields at each Lodge are carefully rotated and rested to assure maximum bird numbers. The driving distance to the fields is in our luxury 15 passenger vans with air conditioning, refreshments and two-way radios.
Each client shoots with their own experienced professional bird boy, who will act as a loader, retrieve downed birds and keep cool drinks ready. Shooting continues until noon, when the group gathers in a shady grove of trees for a traditional Argentine asado (barbecue) complemented with salads, gourmet desserts and fantastic wines.
After lunch and an optional siesta, the shoot continues until approximately 6 PM. Upon returning to the lodge, relax with drinks and hearty hors d’oeuvres while preparing for dinner.
The Accommodations
La Portenita’s lodge staff is as attentive to the details of your stay as the field staff is to your hunting. This magnificent estancia features six large bedrooms in the main house, as well as a separate villa with three additional bedrooms.
The lodge also has a welcoming lounge room outfitted with a full bar, as well as a recessed fire pit just outside the front door that is popular for groups enjoying cocktails and conversation about the day’s hunt. La Portenita is also situated on top of a hill with magnificent views and is nestled in a beautiful country setting within the confines of a working Argentine Estancia, making for an unforgettable shoot-and-stay experience.
