Mosquito Lagoon is one of the true hidden gems of American angling, providing one of the most unique and productive flats fishing experiences in the world. This pristine fishery lies within the Meritt Island National Wildlife Refuge along the east coast of central Florida, offering an authentic and unspoiled “Old Florida” angling experience. Depending on the time of year, Trek’s experienced guide partners may put you on schools of monster redfish cruising the channels that feed the lagoon. Or, they may grab the push-pole to quietly position you for sight casting to fish in water as shallow as six inches.

This adventure can be customized for groups as small as two, or we can easily arrange a multiple-boat adventure for your larger groups or corporate outing.

If you are planning to fly in to this area, the nearest airport to New-Smyrna-Beach is Daytona Beach (DAB) Airport which is 13.7 miles away. Other nearby airports include Orlando Sanford (SFB) (26 miles), Orlando (MCO) (47.4 miles), Jacksonville (JAX) (111.6 miles) and Tampa (TPA) (122.2 miles). We recommend clients rent a car, as you will have a 15-minute drive each day to the boat launch.

Trek’s guide partners here are among the most knowledgeable and accomplished in the region and are well equipped to deliver the adventure of a lifetime for both fly and spin anglers. These will be full eight-hour days of fishing, with each day’s schedule dictated by tides and weather conditions. You will fish from 17′ Hells Bay flats boats which are designed to operate in six inches of water, an ideal setup for navigating Mosquito Lagoon’s 5,000 acres of picturesque flats.

During spring and summer, you’ll have the option of chasing schools of monster bull redfish in channels that feed into the lagoon or sight casting to fish cruising the lagoon’s pristine flats. Because the vast majority of Mosquito Lagoon has no obstructions to break your line, hooked fish in shallow water are free to run “at will.” When was the last time you hooked a ten-pound fish in eight inches of water on six-pound test line? They have nowhere to run but away from you, resulting in a drag-screaming event you’ll always remember.

Our guides will provide you with top-of-the-line light tackle gear and fly gear. All gear, lures and live bait is provided at no additional cost and is meticulously prepared for your trip.

The Black Dolphin Inn is the premier property in the region, offering a variety of upscale room choices. Situated on the banks of the Indian River, the Black Dolphin is a sister property to Abacos’ Blackfly Lodge, providing an authentic angling-themed experience for its guests, an upscale restaurant, and a pier where you can meet for drinks and even soak a line if you still have the angling bug after full days on the water.

The 14-room inn gets its name from the plentiful dolphin, which gracefully patrol the waters off its dock. Accommodations include beautifully appointed guest rooms and suites with balconies and outdoor terraces, elegant Euro-style bedding, and spa–inspired bathrooms with jetted tubs. Furnishings vary in each room with original artwork and antiques tastefully integrated with modern sensibilities and décor. Eight of the suites and guest rooms are equipped with wet bars.
