Costa Rica’s Zancudo Lodge is a truly special place for anglers targeting trophy blue-water gamefish. With more than 70 World Record catches, Zancudo has earned a reputation for delivering its guests an elite angling experience, year after year. Marlin, sailfish, dorado and roosterfish are just a few of the coveted species you’ll be chasing here. Practically every hook-up on this adventure will require maximum effort, so chances are you’ll be deep into a bottle of Advil by the time you head home. The lodge itself provides a captivating respite from long days on the water, with a staff that will attend to your every need.

We have designed a five day, four night trip with three full days of Costa Rica sailfish fishing. The first day, you will arrive into the capital city of San Jose, be met by a lodge representative, and then taken to the Hotel Cariari. The following morning, you will be met in the lobby and taken to the airport for your 6:00 A.M. commercial flight to Golfito. Zancudo Lodge staff will transfer you by boat to the lodge, where you will stow your gear, have a quick breakfast, and then set out for a full day of fishing. The next two days are full fishing days. On the morning of your fifth day, you will take an early flight back to San Jose to connect with your flight home.

The variety of species in this region is the prime reason that the lodge is currently home to more than 70 world records. You will be fishing from 28′ center console boats powered by Suzuki 4-stroke outboard motors. Once you depart the dock each morning, you will make a short run to the numerous schools of blue runners and sardines, which we will be using for bait. You may spend the first day out in the blue water fishing for sailfish and marlin, and then troll the coastlines the next day for dorado and roosterfish. You could also cast to the large schools of jack crevalle. The next day, you may be bottom bumping for grouper and cubera snapper. You are also likely to encounter yellowfin tuna, wahoo, amberjack and tripletail. The Zancudo Lodge has always provided conventional fishing gear, and now has even added 14wt fly fishing gear to the inventory.

The Zancudo Lodge is situated in a lush jungle setting, as beautiful as any you will find in Costa Rica. Facing an estuary with the beautiful Golfo Dulce out the back door, this lodge offers terrific scenery in every direction. The lodge has 15 rooms and suites, each with its own private bath, ceiling fan and air conditioning. The lodge boasts a swimming pool and Jacuzzi for your relaxation and enjoyment. The lodge has an open bar policy and a great staff to make sure your stay is a pleasurable one.
