From fall’s insane striped marlin run to summertime stalking for roosterfish (and many coveted species in between) Cabo San Lucas is a target-rich destination for blue-water fishing. For many years, these prolific waters have been a bucket-list trip for serious blue water fanatics. With easy travel times from the U.S. and a wide variety of home away options, Cabo is a breeze for anglers seeking a thrilling escape to paradise.
The Trip
This Cabo San Lucas fishing adventure starts with your arrival into Los Cabos International Airport, where you will be transferred 45 minutes south along the Baja Corridor to Cabo San Lucas. As mentioned above, there are a number of wonderful resorts, homes and condos available in the Cabo area. Trek will be glad to suggest and reserve accommodations to suit your needs. After getting settled this first day, it’s off to see the sights and sounds of Cabo, including a tour of the marina area and your fishing boat. The next three days will be full fishing days from 8:00 to 5:00, and then we will arrange your transfer on the fifth and final day.
The Experience
The fishing habitat in Baja consists of two different bodies of water; the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez. Both offer a great chance of catching Pacific sailfish, blue and striped marlin, dolphin, tuna, wahoo and roosterfish. Our fleet of boats will be in the 31-36 foot range with upgrades available to boats up to 52 feet.
Your captain will be bilingual, and you will have a mate that is experienced in handling the equipment and making suggestions on how to hook your fish. All billfish will be released, but dolphin, tuna and wahoo will be brought on board and taken to your favorite establishment for dining. Runs to the fishing grounds are typically 20 to 50 minutes unless something extraordinary is happening, in which case you will be briefed.
The Accommodations
There is no shortage of places to stay in Cabo or the surrounding areas. Trek is able to tap into our local network to find an ideal home away for your group size and specifications. You may also elect to stay in a one of the many resorts that make up the Baja and its Corridor. And if golf is your game, the Baja area has some of the finest courses in the world, a perfect complement to your fishing days.
