Testing your angling skills against the hard-hitting, spectacularly acrobatic golden dorado is an experience our team recommends you experience at least once in your lifetime. And once you do it, you’re likely to be as hooked as the fish you catch.

This unique adventure is a stay-aboard experience on the Parana Gypsy, an impressive 70′ try-level riverboat that has been meticulously restored by Trek’s local partner, Luciano Alba. The experience onboard the Gypsy is almost as special as the fishing and one that you’ll always fondly remember.

To reach the Gypsy, you’ll take an overnight flight to Buenos Aires, where you’ll meet a Trek partner representative after clearing customs. From there, you’ll transfer to the private marina, Azahares del Parana. At the marina, you’ll rendezvous with one of our guides, who will escort you to the mothership via an approximate one-hour boat ride.

Once aboard the Gypsy, you’ll be welcomed with a cocktail and shown to your stateroom. Time permitting, you may be able to fish your first afternoon.

The upper Parana is an enormous area and is the second biggest delta in South America after the Amazon, making it also one of the biggest in the world. This unique river system has a very large and complex system of marshlands, lagoons, tributaries, creeks, and islands offering a vast habitat for the Dorado.

Being also where the Parana and Uruguay rivers start to join, this ecosystem enjoys the largest migrations of bait fish of sabalo, pejerrey and sardines, which are the main food source of the golden dorado, as well as other predatory fish, as the Chafalote (Payara like fish), Palo meta, Surubi (big catfish), Pira Pita, Wolf Fish, Pacu and other excellent game fish, that challenge both the fly rodders and spin anglers alike.

Each day, you’ll head out after a hearty breakfast, fishing productive stretches of water, such as runs, lagoon inlets and small channels,  where dorado are known to stalk prey. Due to the mobility of the Gypsy, you’re unlikely to fish the same waters twice during your adventure.

The Parana Gypsy is 70 ft. long by 24 ft. wide with three decks/levels. It was built in the 90’s and recently refurnished and upgraded to adapt to the requirements and needs of fishermen, to be able to access easily from the fishing skiffs.

The mother ship has in its first or lower level, four very comfortable double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, all provided with Air conditioning and heating system, 24 hours electricity, TV, and comfortable twin beds. The second level has a beautiful living room and dining room as well as kitchen, outside there is a deck to relax and take pleasure in the beautiful view of the river, wildlife, while enjoying a cocktail while waiting for lunch or dinner. The upper level has a very nice solarium, and a magnificent 360-degrees view, provided with comfortable lounge chairs.
